Healthy ageing, balance, osteoporosis and exercise rehabilitation
Physiotherapy for older adults focused on strength, balance, bone health, joint care and longevity. I use clinical Pilates and warm-water hydrotherapy as tools within structured rehab and work with patients on GLP-1 medications protecting muscle during weight loss.
Strong muscle and dense bone are the two best predictors of independent living into your 70s, 80s and beyond. My job is to help you build and keep both.
I treat osteoporosis (with progressive heavy-and-impact loading per the LIFTMOR protocol), osteoarthritis (strength, not just stretches), falls prevention, balance rehabilitation and post-fracture recovery. I also work with patients on GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro to preserve lean muscle during rapid weight loss — a fast-growing area of clinical concern.
WHAT I TREAT
What I treat
Osteoporosis & bone health
Progressive heavy and impact loading to stimulate bone — supervised, individualised and safe.
Osteoarthritis
Knee, hip and back OA managed with progressive strength training rather than passive treatments.
Falls prevention
Targeted balance and strength work that reduces fall risk and rebuilds confidence.
Healthy ageing strength
Building and maintaining muscle through your 60s, 70s and 80s — the single biggest longevity lever.
GLP-1 muscle preservation
For patients on Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro — protein-aligned resistance training to preserve lean mass during weight loss.
Hydrotherapy & Pilates
Reformer-free clinical Pilates and warm-water hydrotherapy as part of structured rehab progressions.
MY APPROACH
Strength is the medicine
The biggest mistake older adults are sold is that exercise needs to be gentle. For most conditions of ageing — sarcopenia, osteoporosis, OA, frailty — progressive resistance training at meaningful intensity is the single most effective intervention. I’ll match the load to where you’re starting and progress it sustainably.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently asked of Teya
I’m worried about injuring myself lifting weights at my age.
Supervised resistance training has an excellent safety record in older adults, including in osteoporosis. The risk of NOT loading is far higher than the risk of loading appropriately. We start where you are.
Do you work with Aged Care or NDIS patients?
Yes — both. Aged Care residents in Daisy Hill / Slacks Creek facilities can be seen via the facility partnership, and NDIS plan-managed or self-managed clients can book directly.
Is Pilates appropriate after a recent injury?
Yes — but reformer-free, floor-based clinical Pilates as part of a structured rehab program, not group classes. It’s 1-on-1 with the physio.
I’m on Ozempic and worried about losing muscle.
That’s a real and well-documented concern. Resistance training paired with adequate protein intake is the strongest evidence-based intervention for preserving lean mass during GLP-1 weight loss. We can build that into your rehab or weight management plan.
