SECTION 01

Before your first visit

Booking takes 2 minutes. Call 07 3209 2000 or book online at bookings.nookal.com. When booking, tell reception:

  • What you are coming in for (back, knee, pelvic, vertigo, post-surgical, etc.)
  • Which funding stream you want to use (private health, NDIS, DVA, Medicare CDM, WorkCover, CTP, or self-funded)
  • If you have a preference for a specific clinician (otherwise we’ll match you)

What to bring: Medicare card, private health card (if applicable), DVA card and current GP referral (D904 or D1216) for DVA, Workers’ Comp Medical Certificate plus claim number for WorkCover, NDIS plan for NDIS, GPCCMP referral for Medicare CDM, recent imaging or specialist reports if you have them.

SECTION 02

What happens at your first appointment

Plan to arrive 5 minutes early to complete a brief intake form. Your first session is usually 30 minutes and includes:

  • History. What brought you in, how it started, what makes it better or worse, your goals.
  • Physical assessment. Range of motion, strength testing, special tests for your condition.
  • Treatment. Usually starts in the first session — manual therapy, dry needling if appropriate, exercise prescription.
  • Plan. Clear next steps. How many sessions, what to do at home, when to come back.

For complex presentations or full VALD assessments, book an extended 45-minute consultation instead. Tell reception when booking.

SECTION 03

Funding options we accept

Every major funding pathway:

  • NDIS — registered provider; plan-managed, self-managed and NDIA-managed welcome.
  • DVA — approved provider; Gold and White Card with current GP referral (D904 or D1216), no out-of-pocket.
  • WorkCover Queensland — registered provider; Self-Insured, CTP and Comcare also accepted.
  • Medicare CDM (GPCCMP) — 5 sessions/yr with GP-issued referral.
  • Private health extras — HICAPS on the spot for all major Australian funds, so you only pay the gap.
  • Self-funded — standard private rate, payable on the day.

SECTION 04

Six tips that consistently get our patients better outcomes

  1. Do your home program. The single biggest predictor of recovery speed is whether you actually do the exercises between sessions.
  2. Tell us if something is not working. If a treatment is making it worse, we want to know — the plan can always be adjusted.
  3. Stick with the schedule. Most musculoskeletal cases respond best to 1–2 sessions per week for 3–6 weeks, then taper. Cancelling sessions to save money usually costs more in the long run.
  4. Bring your GP into the loop. We write to your GP after the first appointment and at major milestones. Continuity of care across your healthcare team is a real predictor of long-term outcomes.
  5. Manage load realistically. If you have a knee injury, do not run a half-marathon in week 2 because you feel better. Progressive return-to-load is the difference between resolution and recurrence.
  6. Don’t bounce around clinics. Continuity with one clinician means they know your story and your progression. Switching every visit resets the clock.

SECTION 05

After your first session

You will leave with a clear plan and a date for your next appointment. Most patients come back within 5–10 days for review and progression of treatment.

For chronic conditions or post-surgical rehab, expect 6–12 sessions over 6–12 weeks, tapering as you improve. For acute presentations (acute back, ankle sprain, vertigo), often just 2–4 sessions over 2–4 weeks.

At discharge we send a brief summary to your GP and give you a maintenance program to keep the gains.

COMMON QUESTIONS

New patients ask us …

How long is a standard appointment?+

30 minutes. For complex presentations, full VALD batteries, or multi-area assessments, book an extended 45-minute consultation. Tell reception when booking.

Do I need a referral?+

For a private appointment, no — just book online or call. For DVA you need a current D904 or D1216. For Medicare CDM you need a GPCCMP from your GP. For WorkCover you need a Workers’ Compensation Medical Certificate plus an accepted claim number.

How much does it cost?+

Private patients pay the standard fee on the day — HICAPS on the spot reduces this to the gap if you have extras cover. DVA, WorkCover and NDIS patients pay nothing out of pocket. Medicare CDM has a small gap depending on session length. Self-funded patients pay the standard fee.

How quickly can I be seen?+

Usually within 1–3 business days for new patients. WorkCover and DVA referrals are prioritised. Same-day acute appointments often possible if you call before 11am.

What if I am not sure which clinician to book?+

Just call — reception will ask a few questions and match you to the right person. You can also describe your symptoms in the booking notes if booking online, and we’ll route you to the right clinician.
